Dear Members of the 7th Fleet,

This announcement is reaching you a bit later than planned but due to certain other issues that required our attention and pesky real life matters. I can finally announce the selection of our new Recruitment/Retention Officer and our reinstated position of Quartermaster who to some degree will be working together on ways to improve the look of our recruitment table.

USS Mae Jemison XO Cmdr Christian Savage has been appointed to the position of Recruitment/Retention Officer. I saw him put his whole family to work in recruiting for new members of his chapter and STARFLEET during Farpoint a few months back and he has a lot of experience in recruiting. The R7 Staff and I look forward to working with him in the future and exploring new ideas as well as those tried and true in bringing awareness of STARFLEET to ST fans at large and cons, special events and throughout the year working with our chapters and overseeing certain major multi-chapter events within Region 7. Congratulations to Christian!

Our Quartermaster choice is Lt Joseph Traum, a very hard working member of the USS Susquehannock who initiated through his own proactive project our SF/R7/Chapter mini flag display project that graced our recruitment table at Shore Leave 2024 where it debuted and again during Farpoint 2025 and most recently, at the South Jersey GeekFest a few weeks ago. Joseph is going to find a replacement for our CafePress website and find us some options for R7 merchandise as well as keeping track of vendors who have offerings for things like pips, comm badges, and uniforms and things we need as fans and officers of STARFLEET at cons and conferences. He’ll also be looking at some swag in connection to recruiting efforts. The QM office falls under the office of R7 Finances that R7 Chief Finance Officer Mike Stein heads. A big congrats to Joseph who has always been willing to help out at conventions and conferences and like Christian has demonstrated enthusiasm and some fresh ideas. Thank you both for stepping up and I thank those who applied for these positions.

I hope those moms out there enjoyed a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday. We are heading into the busy summer convention and BBQ season. We have Trek Long Island Philly Fan Expo, Shore Leave and many chapters will be holding their annual summer picnic/BBQs. The USS Avenger is hosting its 40th anniversary on June 21 and this year’s SFI International Conference will be held in Region 3 in Texas in August.

We will be announcing the winners of this year’s R7 Awards program at Shore Leave in July and we’ll be holding a CO/XO meeting in June as there may be some news to share from this Saturday’s Admiralty Board meeting that Wayne and I will be attending in representation of Region 7.

June 1 is the deadline for early bird price for registration of this year’s R7 Conference to be held on the weekend of Columbus Day in October in Fairfield NJ hosted by the USS Abraham Lincoln/USS Justice/USS Theresa Sylvester and it looks to be a wonderful event featuring a theme of celebrating STAR TREK Voyager’s 30th anniversary! Details about the R7 Conference and the SFI International Conference can be found on our R7 Facebook page.

Have a great week and an even better weekend!

Sincerely,
Adm Bob Vosseller
Region 7 Coordinator

Hey members of the 7th Fleet,

Spring is here and Earth Day is coming next month. There will also be a celebration of First Contact Day by the USS Challenger who will once again hold its annual Intergalactic Food Festival at 1 pm on Saturday April 5 at the Seaside Heights Community Center at 1000 Bay Blvd. in Seaside Heights NJ. Everyone is invited to participate and join the party. Bring a food entree or dessert that will accommodate several people as we will be sharing food items for this festive event and you are encouraged though not required to come in uniform/costume to get into the spirit of things. The event will run until we close the doors which is why we moved it to a Saturday this year. Name your food items out of something we’ve seen or could see in Star Trek or even Star Wars, Doctor Who or other Sci-Fi sagas.

Also some exciting news from the Sciences Division of STARFLEET from that auxiliary’s Director Fleet Captain Barb Barton who wrote:

“I wanted to reach out to you directly to let you know of some important events coming up. Sciences is partnering with Petfleet, Medical, and Tactical on April 26th to celebrate Earth Day with a conference called STARFLEET Project Earth. There will be a session offered in the morning and then repeated in the afternoon EST to allow for folks around the globe to join us. There will be a couple pre-recorded sessions, live Sciences Trivia, live environmental-themed gaming, and our Sol Speaker Series which will feature a talk on whale and dolphin conservation by the Director and Assistant Director of the International Marine Mammal Institute of Earth Watch. The Sol talks will be offered for both sessions.

There is also a month-long park/wilderness area cleanup which is being run by Petfleet. Randy Mitson will be hosting a Zoom meeting to help folks plan their April 22 to May 11th Project Earth Day Clean Up events: Saturday March 29th (9am EST) Sunday March 30th (5pm EST). You can pick which day you’d like to join the Info/Ask Me Anything session on March 29th or 30th as well as register to host your clean up event.

As part of this event, we are inviting chapters and regional coordinators to submit a Happy Project Earth Day video (1-2 minutes long) that we will show during the event. In addition to chapters and regions, we have previous Sol speakers and some surprise guests also contributing. Videos should be sent to Mike Rosen at tactical@sfi.org by April 10th.”

They are hoping this becomes an annual event!

Sincerely,
