Hi everyone,

I hope you are enjoying your summer. It was great to see so many of you at Shore Leave 45 earlier this month. We had a great turnout at the STARFLEET Region 7 Meeting and the STARFLEET Marine 7th Brigade and we did well with representing STARFLEET, Region 7 and our respective chapters at this year’s table operation headed by our new Recruiting Officer Christian Savage and assisted with some new swag items like stickers by our new Quartermaster Joe Traum.

We discussed a number of items and Region 7 Staff reports were issued but one thing that has not been announced were this year’s Region 7 Award winners which will be up for consideration next weekend at the STARFLEET International Conference being held in Texas.

The Commanding Officer of the Year is USS Matrix CO Pamela Nery, Officer of the Year is Mattew Barclay of the USS Solstice and the USS Justice won R7 Newsletter of the year that will be judged by the Starfleet Communications Department. There was no chapter of the year awarded this year as we received only one single nomination.

Submissions for the categories were extremely low this year and I am disappointed about that. In speaking to STARFLEET Awards Director Kelli Capette this was a situation that was not unique to Region 7 but across STARFLEET. We congratulate those who won and while our Region 7 Awards Director Marie Dutilly did fully promote the award program early and often, we simply didn’t get the involvement we had in the past. Kelli said she was disappointed Fleet wide. None the less those winners were sent months ago to the STARFLEET Awards Department and Communications Dept. We will see if Region 7 winners take home a STARFLEET award next Saturday.

This year’s STARFLEET INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE (IC) is being held in Texas next weekend and unfortunately, we won’t have any live representation there from anyone in the 7th Fleet. Wayne and I will be present for Executive Committee Admiralty Board meeting more commonly known as ECAB on Friday morning via Zoom and it is expected to be, as always, a lengthy session. I am unsure of any virtual format for this conference, but you can check that out at SFI.org and on the Starfleet Members and Starfleet Business Facebook pages.

Region 7 is seeking a new awards director. We thank Fleet Captain Maria Dutilly for her work this year and years prior in that role. Please send a letter of interest to the RC and VRC.

We are looking for a member who has some experience in the area of awards programs if possible and who has been a member of STARFLEET for at least five years. We’d like to hear your ideas and one of the requirements is interfacing with the STARFLEET Awards Director and the awards directors of other regions.

Should you have any questions, you can also email Wayne or I about the position that we would like to finalize prior to the Region 7 Conference in October. By the way, please join us for that event. See the Region 7 website and Facebook page for details. It isn’t too late to book your room and register.

The summer has been busy with BBQs, cons and picnics and summer blockbuster movies and based on the MSRs we’ve been getting (and remember COs to make sure you submit your next one before Aug. 5) a lot of fun is being had. We also recognize that 2025 seems to be a tough year for some with health, car issues (I am an example of that) and general life issues. STARFLEET is a social group for ST fans and those who enjoy fandom and we do understand that sometimes, you need to take a breath and things happen.

We are happy for the participation we see, and we also appreciate your patience when things happen a bit closer to sub light speed as opposed to warp speed.

We had a great CO/XO meeting in June, and we will have one in September. I will report on what transpired during the ECAB/IC at some point after it concludes. Life has kept me rather busy as of late as well and I am sorry that I have not been able to make more posts lately.

Thanks again, keep cool and be safe.

Dear Members of the 7th Fleet,

This announcement is reaching you a bit later than planned but due to certain other issues that required our attention and pesky real life matters. I can finally announce the selection of our new Recruitment/Retention Officer and our reinstated position of Quartermaster who to some degree will be working together on ways to improve the look of our recruitment table.

USS Mae Jemison XO Cmdr Christian Savage has been appointed to the position of Recruitment/Retention Officer. I saw him put his whole family to work in recruiting for new members of his chapter and STARFLEET during Farpoint a few months back and he has a lot of experience in recruiting. The R7 Staff and I look forward to working with him in the future and exploring new ideas as well as those tried and true in bringing awareness of STARFLEET to ST fans at large and cons, special events and throughout the year working with our chapters and overseeing certain major multi-chapter events within Region 7. Congratulations to Christian!

Our Quartermaster choice is Lt Joseph Traum, a very hard working member of the USS Susquehannock who initiated through his own proactive project our SF/R7/Chapter mini flag display project that graced our recruitment table at Shore Leave 2024 where it debuted and again during Farpoint 2025 and most recently, at the South Jersey GeekFest a few weeks ago. Joseph is going to find a replacement for our CafePress website and find us some options for R7 merchandise as well as keeping track of vendors who have offerings for things like pips, comm badges, and uniforms and things we need as fans and officers of STARFLEET at cons and conferences. He’ll also be looking at some swag in connection to recruiting efforts. The QM office falls under the office of R7 Finances that R7 Chief Finance Officer Mike Stein heads. A big congrats to Joseph who has always been willing to help out at conventions and conferences and like Christian has demonstrated enthusiasm and some fresh ideas. Thank you both for stepping up and I thank those who applied for these positions.

I hope those moms out there enjoyed a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday. We are heading into the busy summer convention and BBQ season. We have Trek Long Island Philly Fan Expo, Shore Leave and many chapters will be holding their annual summer picnic/BBQs. The USS Avenger is hosting its 40th anniversary on June 21 and this year’s SFI International Conference will be held in Region 3 in Texas in August.

We will be announcing the winners of this year’s R7 Awards program at Shore Leave in July and we’ll be holding a CO/XO meeting in June as there may be some news to share from this Saturday’s Admiralty Board meeting that Wayne and I will be attending in representation of Region 7.

June 1 is the deadline for early bird price for registration of this year’s R7 Conference to be held on the weekend of Columbus Day in October in Fairfield NJ hosted by the USS Abraham Lincoln/USS Justice/USS Theresa Sylvester and it looks to be a wonderful event featuring a theme of celebrating STAR TREK Voyager’s 30th anniversary! Details about the R7 Conference and the SFI International Conference can be found on our R7 Facebook page.

Have a great week and an even better weekend!

Sincerely,
Adm Bob Vosseller
